  1. I learned that hollywood had hyped up the inhumane treatment of alcatraz and that people actually wanted to try to transfer to Alcatraz. It apparently was a humane prison that treated its prisoners respectfully in an attempt to rehabilitate. I didn't know that Alcatraz translates to Pelican. It was originally meant to be a military garrison during the civil war and the conclusion of the war it was turned into a prison for southern defectors. then it was turned into a federal penitentiary. I didn't know either that Native Americans had taken up the prison until 1971 when they were forced off the land. I never knew that no prison was ever directly sent to Alcatraz as well.

For constructive criticism I felt, that Patience talked a little to much. Nearly the entire time. I think the slides as well had to much on them. If it were simply titles and key words it would give us something quick to look at and go off of instead of a big paragraph to be read. Towards the end Patience and Rebecca went off of each other, it would have been good if you guys did this the entire time.

  2. I learned a lot of information from this presentation. Many of the facts I did not know about Alcatraz. Facts such as it was made to be a military prison and that prisoners actually wanted to be located there. Also that the harsh conditions we here about are not all true. Media has depicted society's perspective on Alcatraz.

A few things I did not like was the amount of words on the slides. Something smaller would have been better in my opinion. As well as maybe a few more pictures throughout the slideshow to give us as listeners a better idea of what we are hearing about.

  3. Overall I thought you guys did really well! The facts that you had were really interesting and a lot of it I didn't know before which is always great. I thought that the pace of your presentation was really well and you guys talked clearly so that it was understandable.

Something that could have been polished was the amount of words on the slides, there was a lot to read and it was more like reading your report rather than hearing it. Also, it would have been nice to see more pictures of inside Alcatraz and pictures relating to your points. Also I would have liked to see it more connected to the question we were provided, and examples as well.

  4. I thought you two did very well. I never knew that much about Alcatraz besides what I heard from watching shows like Ghost Hunters. I would have thought of it to be the worst spot in the world from the movies and to hear that prisoners liked it here changed my whole perspective. I think that you two did great at giving information.

I think that maybe next time you could make the presentation a little less wordy and also add a little more pictures.

    Good job Ladies!

  6. I really enjoyed this presentation. I didn't expect for you guys to take it in that direction with Alcatraz being more humane than we have be led to believe, but you did very well with it. You brought up some valid points with it being safer due to single cells and isolated from others. It was clear to tell what point you guys were trying to get across.

I think that the only constructive criticisms that I would give is that I felt like a couple of your points were repeated a little more than needed, which wasn't bad because then we really understood what you guys were saying, but if you trimmed some of those parts out, then you could have had time for those videos I heard you guys talking about. I am actually pretty intrigued to know what they were about. Great Job!

  7. The amount of information was impressive. Also the comparisons for our prison's today gave more insight to the actual life in Alcatraz.

The thesis was murky for me until near the end. A lot of information was thrown at us, but I had trouble seeing the goal. The sheer amount of facts actually clouded the ideas.

  8. So I thought the passion over Alcatraz not being a brutal place was good. I agree that in our media Alcatraz is always shown to be an extremely harsh place where only the most dangerous men were destined to be. I was surprised to learn about it being designed as a fort prior to it being a prison, and I didn't know about the native Americans that had been living there. I think the history surrounding the prison was probably the best part.
For my constructive criticism I could only echo what everyone else has been saying. Some arguments, like the high quality of the prison, was repeated a bit. The slides could've been trimmed down to bullet points to help remind you two of what you were wanting to say rather than detail complete ideas. Personally, one thing I was looking for was how Alcatraz effects all of us as a people today, which I think could have tied the presentation together.

  9. I had no idea that Alcatraz was such a role model prison, but I wish you guys would have caressed the other side of it. It seems like you focused on it being good throughout the entire presentation and never showed the opposing side like what were used to seeing about Alcatraz.

  11. I liked that you showed us a different point of view on Alcatraz rather than the view that the media usually gives us. One problem I saw was that there weren't very many visuals or pictures.
