Journal 5 Matthew Hines

      I chose to write about Marta Becket and Tom Willett. Isay uses mostly first person in this profile. The first section is Becket telling her story from her point of view, and the next section is Willett talking about how he met Becket. I believe that Isay chose this point of view because it makes the reader feel like they're hearing the story directly from the source.
     One thing that you might not notice in picture is that Becket is standing in a dancer pose. This, combined with her outfit, shows how dedicated she is to what she does. Something else you might not notice is how detailed the background is. It has multiple buildings , and they all have writing on them. This helps to make the background more interesting and realistic. Something else you might not notice is that Willett is reading a newspaper. Because they live in a very small town, I think this shows a little bit about how they live their life. The way that the picture is composed reveals a lot about the subjects. The way that Becket is standing, with her hands on her hips, shows that she takes her job seriously. Also, the way that Willett is sitting casually, reading a newspaper, shows that he is the more comedic part of the act.
     I believe that Becket represents creativity because she was primarily self-taught, and even when performance dancing was becoming less popular, she continued because she loved dancing. She was raised by a single mother, so she couldn't afford to get dancing lessons. She taught herself how to dance, and eventually she was able to go on tour with her dancing.
     The writing from this profile that stood out to me was Becket was talking about how she gave up dancing for two years. Instead, she began doing cartoons for magazines. Then one night she began drawing something, and she had no control over it. When she was done, it turned out to be a dancer. After this she knew that she had to get back into dancing. This stood out to me because this is the sort of experience that not many people have.
